Gateway Education USA places its long-term and short term students with American host families in order to immerse the student in the English language and American culture.
Living with a local host family is one of the best ways for international students to improve their English and learn about the culture. Students become a member of their host family and often end up establishing life long bonds that continue on into their adult lives.
Gateway Education helps find and arrange a friendly, caring host family for each student by taking in consideration student preferences, student characteristics and host family characteristics. Each host family is carefully selected, interviewed, assessed and screened.
The host family and Gateway Education collaborate to provide the student a safe, nurturing environment in the United States that is conducive to academic growth and personal development.
The student will be an integral family member. The student will participate in the family’s activities, contribute to the family’s domestic management, and teach the family about his or her own culture. Furthermore, being a part of a local host family enables the student to become part of the larger community.
Immersion into another culture and especially in a family of that culture reaps immense benefits for the international student. Individually the student learns not only about the other culture but a lot about his or herself. The student will grow exponentially with each experience he or she has in a family of another culture. They learn about their own culture, their own tendencies, weaknesses and strengths. When this occurs the student begins to grow and mature. These experiences prepare the student for life as an independent adult at the University level.
